STEPHEN ELLIS is President & COO of BirdDog Media, a new venture with Discovery veteran Clark Bunting. We first met in the 'Eighties when Stephen was a key program supplier to my client, the fledgling Discovery Channel. He was then CEO of Ellis Entertainment which he sold in 2011 after 47 years in the business. Canada has always punched far above its weight in the Documentary / Unscripted community, driven by a strong national public broadcaster, a buffet of Cab/Sat channels with local content mandates, co-pro treaties, and generous tax incentive programs. We review recent positive trends and explore the outlook for Canadian Factual production in 2020 and beyond.
